Amy Titus Obituary

Amy Lou Titus, 66 of Chattanooga, Tennessee, entered that place of peace and rest with the Lord on February 20, 2024.  Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 29, 1957, to James McLeod Steel and Betty Louise Engle, she graduated Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio, attended Barrington College in Rhode Island, and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1979. That same year she was married to her husband, Barry, of 44 years having met at Faith
Missionary Church in Indianapolis. Amy’s spiritual walk often found her immersed in Precept Bible studies by Kay Arthur while attending Faith and Horizon Christian Fellowship in Indianapolis and Calvary Chapel in Cleveland, Tennessee.
After starting her career at Methodist, St. Vincent’s and Riverview Hospitals, Amy soon developed a specialty in hand therapy while working for Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgery Associates and Lewis R. Kinkaid, M.D. in Indianapolis. She received national recognition from achievements at Advanced Physical Therapy and then worked for ATI Physical Therapy until taking medical leave in 2013.

Amy loved to be an encouragement and support to her family. No matter the distance or sacrifice she would always try to be at soccer games, basketball games, gymnastics, diving competitions, and baseball and softball games to cheer the children and their teams on.
Besides enjoying their sports, she also traveled internationally to provide love and support when a child was serving in Christian mission.
Survivors include her husband, Barry; daughters, Elizabeth Kandel (Wesley) of Los Angeles and Rachel Titus of Santa Monica, son, Benjamin Titus (Katie) of Carmel, Indiana; sister, Heidi White (Greg) of Marlborough, MA; and grandchildren, Zion (17), Eden (13), Brock (14), Troy (4), and Cole (2).

The family is planning an informal memorial celebration of Amy’s life at White River Campground, Cicero, Indiana, on Saturday, August 3, 2024. In keeping with her education and life-long career, Amy became a donor for medical education and research.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Michael J. Fox Foundation and/or to Rock Steady Boxing.

Most everyone who knew Amy grew to love her. She had an enthusiasm and zest for life and love for others that was contagious. The family is thankful for the support and love shown to Amy by numerous caregivers, neighbors, friends, family members, and to the staff and residents at the Lantern at Morning Point, to Phileo Home Care, and Gentiva Hospice.

Amy will be deeply missed, but we rejoice because “death has been swallowed up in victory” by the grace and mercy of God, and she is now with our Lord!
