Gertrude (Lammers) Schaefer

Gertrude Lammers Schaefer, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away January 14, 2024. She was born December 31, 1929 in Terre Haute, daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Strong) Lammers.

She was a proud 1947 graduate of Wiley High School, and a 1990 graduate of Indiana University.

Through the years, Gert was involved with different organizations including the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and the Carmel Library. She traveled throughout the world, including trips to Hawaii, Japan, and the Galapagos Islands. Gert was an avid sports fan and always rooted for IU and the Indianapolis Colts. In her final years, she lived in Traditions at North Willow, Indianapolis.

In addition to her parents, Gert was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert H. “Skip” Schaefer.

Survivors include her brother, Henry “Hank” or “HS (Ellyn) Lammers; three children, Nancy Allen of Westfield, James “Jim” Schaefer of Indianapolis, and Amy Kepilino of Waikiki, HI; four granddaughters, Lindsey (Kevin), Betsy, Irene and Erina; two great-grandsons, Camden, and Crosby.

A private funeral service will take place in Bussell Family Funerals, Carmel and a private burial in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville.
