Lois Wolter Traber, 86, of Houston, TX, formerly of Carmel, and Merrillville, IN, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024. She was born April 4, 1937 in Gary, IN daughter of Carl and Verna (Helmreich) Wolter.
As a 1955 graduate of Tolleson High School in Gary, IN, Lois worked at the American Bridge Company. She then became a Flight Attendant with Capital Airlines, which was based in Chicago. Several years later, Lois also obtained her Real Estate license.
Lois enjoyed spending time with family on the lake sailing in their family sailboat. She enjoyed traveling, as the family always took summer vacations. Lois was blessed with a green thumb growing beautiful flowers in her garden. She watched the market daily and knew how to wisely invest in stocks.
Attending every sports activity and other events the grandchildren were involved in was certainly a priority for Lois. She loved her family deeply.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert W. Traber; brothers, Harry Wolter, Jack Wolter, and Tom Wolter.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Luann) Traber and Michelle (Chris) Roberts; grandchildren, Travis Traber, Jack Miller, Kristen Miller, Jordan Hopkins, and Kaitlin Hopkins; and one great-grandson, Braylin Kimble.
There will be a visitation Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 3-6 pm in the narthex at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, of which Lois was a longtime member. The Funeral Service will take place Thursday, January 25 at 11 am in the church with one hour of visitation prior to service beginning at 10 am.
In memory of Lois, donations may be made to the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center.
