Patricia J. Johnson, 84, of Carmel passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, surrounded by her family after a sudden and unexpected illness. She was born October 18,1939 in Hartford City, daughter of Frank and Jessie Johnson of Dunkirk.
Where to begin, trying to summarize a life such as Pat’s, or Patty as most people knew her, to us, she was simply Aunt Pat. She was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and Indiana University Kokomo. After more than 30 years of service, Pat retired from General Motors. Spunky, energetic, inquisitive, thoughtful, loving, and giving are words that loved ones mention when they speak of Pat. Certainly, she did not fit the mold of a typical 84-year-old.
Through the years, Pat was involved in numerous groups and clubs including her garden club, the Red Hat Ladies, her Euchre group, and practicing Tai Chi. Pat was an avid fan of tennis her entire life and enjoyed watching matches on TV, when she was unable to attend in person. With a great appetite for knowledge, Pat loved to learn about different cultures, to travel, to learn the latest technology on her Apple products and learn different languages. She loved to cook and try new recipes, which she enjoyed doing with her many friends. Entertaining friends, going to hear the orchestra at the Palladium, and being with her beloved cats brought Pat great joy.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, Merrill Johnson and Donald Johnson; and sister-in-law, Mary Frances Johnson .
She is survived by her nephew, Wayne Johnson (Angie Johnson); nieces Christine Anderson (Corey Anderson) and Lou Ann Kycek (Michael Rhyan); great nieces; cousins, Jane Ann Brimhall and Ruby Johnson; and her nearest and dearest friends, Annette Rush, and Paula List.
If we have failed to mention a special interest, please feel free to mention it on the website tribute wall.
Pat wished to be cremated and a service at the Carmel Cemetery is planned for late Spring. Details to follow.
