Richard B. Hiatt of Zionsville passed away March 16, 2017 at the age of 79. Richard was born in Noblesville on October 5, 1937 to Iva Jo (Smith) and Raymond Hiatt.
Richard grew up in Lebanon, Tennessee and attended Castle Heights Military Academy through 8th grade. His family moved back to Indianapolis where Richard attended Arsenal Technical High School through his sophomore year.
In 1956 Richard moved to San Diego, California and took a job at Ryan Aeronautical Company where he worked the assembly line for almost a year before joining the United States Navy. Richard was stationed on the U.S.S. Estes AGC-12 from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1963.
Upon his discharge Richard returned to Indianapolis and went back to night school to receive his diploma from Arsenal Technical Evening School. In 1968 he married his wife Earleen, with whom he spent 43 years, until her passing in 2011.
Richard led a rich, full life. He had a love for new experiences, whether they were travel, new technology, movies, books, carpentry, guns, hiking, and myriad other interests. He had a number of jobs over the years, from grocery clerk, to bus driver, to movie theatre projectionist. He was also member of Carmel Friends Church and Zionsville American Legion Post #79. Above all else, he was husband and provider for Earleen. Richard joins her in eternity along with his parents and sister, Betty Jo.
Survivors include step-sons, Gene Baker (Renaye) and Terry Baker (Ernestine); sister, Janet; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A private service was held Saturday, March 18, 2017.
