Nancy D. Wermund

Nancy Dorcas (Mau) Wermund, age 71, Indianapolis, beloved wife and mother, entered eternal life to join her Lord and Savior on April 18, 2017.

Born on September 10, 1945 in Berwyn, Illinois to Edward and Gladys Mau, she is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William L. Wermund, her three daughters, Nissa (Mike) Ricafort, Jennifer (Ted) Hammond, and Laura (Mike) Santos; her six grandchildren who were the light of her life, Natalie Hammond, Angelo Ricafort, Benjamin Hammond, Addison Ricafort, Rayder Santos, Nico Santos; her sister, Marilyn Collier; her sister-in-law, Mary Wood and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Judith Kribales and her brother, Edward Mau.

Nancy’s faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone for each day of her life. She loved her family, friends and strangers just as Jesus loves each and every one of us. She adored her “sweet man” Bill from the moment they started dating on their high school senior trip and she spent the next 54 years by his side. She was a “second mom” to many of her daughters’ friends and was always willing to offer a hug or word of encouragement. Throughout her almost twenty-five years as a first-grade teaching assistant at John Strange Elementary School, she enriched the lives of countless young children with her care and compassion. And as “Oma” to her six grandchildren, she always reminded them of Christ’s love by blessing them on the forehead with the sign of a cross. She loved to work in her garden and to witness God’s beauty in new blossoms and flowers each spring. She also cherished her time with dear friends at book club and bible study.

Nancy’s family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with a calling at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 4850 East Main Street, Carmel, Indiana, 46033 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017. Nancy’s family also will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 just prior to a service to celebrate Nancy’s eternal life at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Nancy’s honor to Camp Arcadia (3046 Oak Street, Arcadia, MI, 49612), where Nancy spent many wonderful summers in spiritual renewal with her family and friends or to Riley Hospital for Children, 705 Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202. Envelopes will be available at the service.
