Robert “Bob” Gadberry, 90, of Carmel, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017. He was born on March 4, 1927 in Sullivan, IN, son of Fred E. and Ruth P. Johnson Gadberry.
Bob was a 1944 graduate of Sullivan High School and a veteran of the US Army. After 35 years of employment, in 1992, Bob retired as Director of Accounting with the State Department of Education.
In 1998, Bob was honored in being awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash, presented by then Governor Evan Bayh. But, Bob would consider his greatest achievement and joy in life, the love and admiration received from his family. He will be greatly missed!
Bob enjoyed working crossword puzzles and looked forward to Wednesday evenings playing the game Head and Foot with good friends. Bob was an avid reader. He often chose to be spontaneous in traveling, especially when making trips to MI, KY and WI. It was a tradition to visit the “Grand Ole Opry” with hopes to make just “one more trip.” The more extensive trips with destinations such as New England, FL and AL were planned by Barbara. Bob and Barbara also traveled abroad including the U.K. where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Gadberry and twin brother, William Gadberry.
