Obituary of Donald Fields
Donald Fields, 91, of Carmel, IN, passed away peacefully in his home on February 11, 2017. He was born August 12, 1925 in Elwood, IN, son of Mahlon and Ethel Myerly Fields.
Prior to Don joining the US Navy in 1945, he served in the Merchant Marines. He had a 32 year career in research and development with General Motors, Gas Turbine - Allison Transmission Plant. Don was a member of the Carmel Golden K Kiwanis as well as the Janus Development Services in Noblesville. During the 1960’s, Don served several terms as a member of the Carmel Town Board. He also received multiple recognitions for his service to the community.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty Fields; son, Donnie Fields; daughter, Laurel McConnell; grandson, Spencer Young; 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Survivors include his children, Paula (Harold) Fogelberg of Brentwood, TN, Melissa (John) Young of Muncie, IN, Spencer (Celeste) Fields of Kansas City, MO and Kim (Eric) Moffett of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Darcy (David) Copeland, Todd (Sara) Fogelberg, Cheney (Brad) Harper, Ian McConnell, Joshua (Yijun) Young, Jordan Young, Krystan (Greg) Kohler, Alex Fields, Eli (Katie) Moffett, Justin (Jennifer) Moffett, Megan Moffett and Zach Moffett; 15 great-grandchildren and special friend, Millie Adams.
Don was a shining example of Christ’s love, generous in spirit and a father to all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Carmel Friends Church, of which Don was a longtime member, 651 W. Main Street, Carmel. Visitation will begin at 1 pm in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Don be made to Carmel Friends Church or Quaker Haven Church Camp. Envelopes will be available at the service.
