Obituary of George Romer
George J. Romer, 71, of Noblesville, passed away May 2, 2017. He was born on November 26, 1945 in Indianapolis to George Joseph Romer and Margaret Pauline Ard Romer.
George was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School. He traveled to several cities where he worked for Lazarus/Macy in the construction of their stores. For a number of years, he also worked for J. and S. Concrete.
He was a proud veteran of the US Navy having served as a Field Medical Service Technician. George was awarded two Purple Heart Medals with the first for fragment wounds, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars.
George enjoyed football, basketball and woodworking. He crafted beautiful bird houses as well as other mementos. His greatest passion was fishing where he said “that is where I feel closest to God.”
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by sisters, Elaine Purichia and Andrea Palin.
He is survived by his daughter, RaDonna K. Shearer; sisters, Rita (Denny) Hurrle and Rosemarie Krieg; brother, Jan (Patty) Romer; grandsons, Devin Channing Farmer and Levi Anthony Farmer.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2 pm in the Carmel VFW Post #10003, 12863 Old Meridian Street, Carmel. The funeral service will begin at 4 pm with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be payable to Bussell Family Funerals to assist with George’s final expenses. Envelopes will be available at the service.
