Obituary of Jon Hodgin
Jon O. Hodgin, 77, of Carmel, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017. He was born on October 5, 1939 in Toledo, OH, son of Warren A. and Hazel Buckles Hodgin. The family lived in Bellevue, OH before moving to Carmel in1956.
Jon loved all sports and played baseball, basketball and football. He was a 1957 graduate of Carmel High School. He then joined the US Air Force and served his country 4 years at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC.
After working at Chrysler, Ford and Canada Dry, Jon completed his BS degree from the IU School of Business in 1965.
Jon was hired by Western Electric in 1965 at the Indianapolis plant as Staff Trainee. He was promoted to Section Chief over shop production of Printed Wiring Boards.
Jon was transferred to Western Electric Headquarters 222 Broadway, NY as Section Chief in Management Development. He was promoted to Department Chief in 1967.
Jon married Carolyn J. Lawrence on May 20, 1967 and they lived in NJ.
After moving to Littleton, CO in 1969, Jon and Carolyn were blessed by the adoption of their son Mark, on June 15, 1971.
In 1974, Jon was transferred back to IN as Department Chief Customer Service and Warehousing for the Indianapolis Works. Western Electric transferred Jon to the plant in Winston-Salem, NC.
A foster son, Pat Grogg lived with Jon and Carolyn for 3 years before he moved to be with his sister.
Jon loved camping, snow skiing and hiking, especially in CO, his most loved state. In his younger years, Jon excelled in swimming and diving. He also loved his dogs who were more than simply pets, but loyal friends.
In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his son, Mark A. Hodgin in 2010.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn Lawrence Hodgin; grandson, Charles Devon Hodgin; sister, Janet Casper; brother, Jim (Terri) Hodgin; sister-in-law, Debra Blankenhorn; brothers-in-law, Douglas (Charlene) Lawrence, Jim (Emma) Lawrence and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 1 pm in St. Luke’s United Methodist Church-Chapel, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis. The Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3 pm.
In memory of Jon, donations may be made to the Humane Society for Hamilton County, 1721 Pleasant Street, Noblesville, IN 46060. Envelopes will be available at the service.
