Obituary of Mark Knuth
Mark Allen Knuth 50, of Marion IN. passed away May 5, 2017. He was born October 30, 1966 in St. Joseph, MI to the late Michael Allen Knuth Sr. and Janet Anderson Knuth.
Mark lived in MI until the family moved to AR when he was 9 years of age.
Mark was active in Scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He also served as a counselor during Boy Scout summer camps.
Sports were important to Mark; he loved to fish, play baseball and football. He played trumpet in the band. In high school he would play football with the team until halftime and then play and march with the band wearing his football uniform.
Mark graduated with honors from Ozark High School and moved with the family to IN. He chose to join the Marines as opposed to attending college.
During his time serving in the Marines, he was awarded metals, badges and citations as an M-16 Expert and 45 Pistol Marksmanship. He also received training in Shipboard Firefighting, General Damage Control and Sea Duty indoctrination. Mark retired from the Marines July 51988.
Mark was diagnosed with a mental illness while in the Marines. He loved to listen to music mostly rock and roll, and expressed his love of art through drawings and many, many body tattoos. He spent much of his adult years in VA Hospitals and group homes in OH and IN.
Mark was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
Survivors include his mother Janet, brother Michael Knuth Jr (wife Eriko) sisters; Martha Laswell (husband Jeff) and Marsha Knuth; 5 nieces and nephews.
A committal service will take place Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11 am in Carmel Cemetery.
