Obituary of Carlton Steele

Carlton Edward Steele, 92, of Indianapolis, IN,formerly of Owensboro, KY, passed away July 28, 2017.  He was born on March 13, 1925 in Lexington, KY, son of the late Lester James and Florence Shanks Steele.  Carlton was a 1949 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in electrical engineering.  He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Pi Sigma Honorary Societies.  Carlton was a WW II veteran where he served with in the 8th Army Air Corps in England. He retired from Bell South as Operations Manager Construction and Engineering in 1987 after 39 years of service.  During his career, he held positions in Louisville, Pikeville, Winchester, Paducah, Hopkinsville, and Owensboro.   

Carlton enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Owensboro Country Club. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers and a former board member of the Owensboro Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Williams Steele in November 11, 2003; sisters, Lena Rivers Allison, Mildred Shump and a brother, Lester James Steele.

Carlton was a devoted husband and father who instilled ethics and integrity to his survivors who include his daughter, Sandra Steele Bowling (Edgar A.) of Carmel, IN; grandchildren Reid Williams Bowling (Teran) of Lexington, KY and Erin Elizabeth Bowling of Louisville, KY; great-grandson, Reid Wyatt Bowling of Lexington, KY.

Friends and family will gather on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 5-7 pm (CDT) in Glenn Funeral Home, 900 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY.  A Committal Service will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 1 pm (EDT) in Lexington Cemetery, 833 W. Main Street, Lexington, KY with Reverend Sue Shadburne Call officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carlton, may be given to the University of Kentucky, School of Engineering, 351 Administration Drive, Lexington, KY  40506.
