Daniel W. Powroznik, age 52, died unexpectedly at his home in Westfield, IN, on February 20, 2026. He was born in New Hartford, NY, on July 27, 1973, to Thomas and Mary Powroznik and was the youngest of 3 sons.
After graduating from New Hartford High School in 1991, Daniel pursued his education, studying at Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY Cortland and Ball State University where he earned his master’s degree in education. Early in his career he worked in NYC and NJ as an editor for a medical literature company transcribing medical studies for physician publications. Daniel moved to Indiana where he began his teaching career. He was an adjunct professor at Oakland City University and a clinical supervisor at Western Governors University. Daniel eventually began to work in the Indiana Department of Corrections in the juvenile facilities as an institutional English teacher where he was recognized as an outstanding educator. Daniel also was the special education coordinator for 2 years and obtained his principal certification with which he also formerly served as an assistant principal.
Outside of his profession, Daniel enjoyed playing soccer in his youth, through college and into his adult life. After his playing days, he enjoyed coaching and refereeing, as well as going to games or watching them on TV whenever he could. Daniel was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading classic literature. He was also an exceptional writer and authored a few books. He was also a sports fan. In addition to soccer, Daniel enjoyed college basketball, horse racing, and of course the New York Jets. He attended many Jets football games over the years with family and friends, traveling to wherever they were playing.
Daniel’s most important highlight in life was that of being a father to his beloved daughter, Vivian Shea Powroznik. She was the brightest spot not only in his entire life, but in each and every day. Daniel was a very involved parent who would provide direction in her education, extracurricular activities and sports. He would not miss an activity or event she was involved in and was very proud of her. Daniel would coach many of her sports teams in soccer. He provided her with all his love and support.
Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Powroznik and oldest brother, Stephen Prowroznik.
Daniel is survived by his smart, beautiful daughter, Vivian Shea Powroznik of Westfield, IN; loving mother, Mary Powroznik, of Carmel, IN; his older brother Mark (Debbie) Powroznik of New Hartford, NY; nephew and nieces Kevin Powroznik of Jacksonville, FL; Christine Powroznik of Clay, and Nikki Getman of Little Falls, NY as well as his sister in law, Lisa Getman of Troy, NY.
